Work and Study in New Zealand

This country has everything anyone might dream of. Solutions for every taste. Do you want to get away from the cold weather? Get emmerged in the warm places of the North of the country and take baths in the transparent-water beaches. Do you want to feel the cool breeze and relax while getting lost in the mountains? You for sure can do that in the South of the country where the hills are wrapped by layers of snow. Are you a fan of sports? Hockey, tennis, footbol, cricket, car racing, hiking, rafting, diving, and risky sports! Whatever you want is there! Do you want to chill out and rest? The difficult task here is not to find a spot to do so but to choose the best option out of the wide fan of them you will have ! 

 

Until here we have talked about what to do and where to go in New Zealand, ... but now it's the turn to talk about its inhabitants! The New Zealanders! New Zealand is a very multi-cultural country where people from all over the world co-habit nicely. They are very welcoming and make the effort to understand the different levels of English they run into, so don't worry! :) 

 

The locals are known as individualistic who defen equity among human beings. In comparison to the rest of Asian societies, they express their feelings more openly; less than Latin cultures though. They value puctuality and prefer informal occasions rather than formal and elegant ones. 

 

Once we know a bit about the New Zealand's culture and society, it's time for me to tell you how easy going to study there is! And not only that, how easy it is to live one of the best experiences of your life! go ahead! There is no cons, only pros! 

First of all, travelling to New Zealand to study English will help you guys to improve your fluency very fast since you will be surrounded by this language at all times. You will not only learn it in class, but you will also have to use it in your daily life to interact with the locals and to get whatever you need or want. 

From January 2014 onwards, you can legally work in New Zealand; you just need to book an English language course of 20 hours per week, for 14 weeks minimum, at Government approved Category 1 English language school. Once your course is booked, the language school issues the letter of acceptance that you need to present at the embassy in order to apply for the student visa. It does not matter your level of English - there are courses for every level. 

 

Thanks to the Student Visa, you will be able to work up to 20 hours per week (part-time job). For those students who book a whole year course (48 weeks) they are able to work full time on holidays!

There is a wide fan of possibilities where you can work since the unemployment rate is only 6.2% ! The fields where students find a job more easily are: tourism and services (hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, places where their native language is needed - here your level of English might play an important role in the job interview), agriculture and farms (planting, labouring the lands, picking up fruits and vegetables), baby-sitting  (taking care of children and elder people) or in any other field where other languages are needed. 

An international student might be able to earn between 10 and 15 new zealand dollars per hour. (7-8 euros approx). For the students to get paid they should open a bank account there - it is very easy and you only need the student card of the academy you attend and your passport.
