These courses are designed to prepare you for the IELTS academic English exam, with focused training in exam strategies and techniques to allow you to maximise your potential and achieve the grade you need.
The IELTS exam is a requirements for degree study at many English-speaking universities, including UCT. They are also used for immigration purposes and for professional accreditation.
This course runs all year round and exams can be taken at regular intervals at a local test centre. Courses can be combined with General English afternoon electives. Please note that these courses are subject to availability, and you need to be at least Upper-Intermediate level to join the course.

•All our UCT English Language Centre teachers have many years of experience and hold the highest English Language Teaching qualifications. Most importantly, they are dedicated, passionate, and work together as a team to share their knowledge and support each other and our students. Our newly refurbished English language premises are also equipped with the latest classroom technology, and offer a modern and stylish learning environment. Classes are kept small to maintain high quality, and a high student/teacher ratio. The UCT English Language Centre is located at the University’s Hiddingh Campus in the heart of the city. It is a short walk from Cape Town’s vibrant cultural and historic centre, and has easy access to the beaches and local attractions. You will be able to use all the facilities on Hiddingh campus, and to attend regular exhibitions, events and performances. A private UCT bus service will also connect you to the UCT main campus where you can access a wide range of sports and recreational facilities, join student clubs and societies, and attend student events. Your first day will include an orientation tour so you can get to know all the university has to offer. We know that learning a new language can be challenging, but we also think it should be a fun and rewarding experience and that it should take place in a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment!
